Randomized Control Trials Assignment: Yan Chen on Wikipedia

See Assignment

See Answer Key

This assignment is based on the Economists in the Wild episode on Yan Chen and her research on Wikipedia.

This assignment focuses on the randomized trial research design aspects in the episode; check out our related assignment that focuses on public goods.

Getting Started

A randomized trial in the real world! This time, Yan Chen and coauthors are trying to discover what motivates experts to contribute to Wikipedia and they use a randomized trial to get answers!

This is a perfect assignment to have students transfer what they've learned about randomized trials to a new and interesting problem. We've highlighted specific sections of Chen et al's research to see if students know how to check for balance, scan a table for statistically significant results, and more! Plus, the research highlighted is related to a topic your students know and love (ok, use), so it's highly accessible.
