Lesson Plan: High school teachers often report that the role of the Fed in the economy is one of the hardest topics for students, particularly in AP Macro. Juggling open market operations, the federal funds rate, and the Fed's influence on inflation and unemployment can be difficult. This three-day lesson plan provides a sequence for teaching this difficult topic with an array of intuitive and fun activities. Included in the lesson plan are videos to show in class (along with practice questions), real AP multiple choice questions, current events-inspired activities, and instructions for playing the popular Chair the Fed online game together as a class. The lesson plan concludes with an introduction to the ways in which the Fed has changed since 2008, along with a final writing assessment.
