Does Fair Trade Help?
Fair trade is a popular movement in wealthy nations. But the next time you pay a premium for fair trade coffee, ask whether your purchase will really help workers in poor countries -- as fair trade products claim to do. As this video explains, there is a lack of strong evidence that fair trade has a positive impact on living standards in poor countries. We look at fair trade using the economic concepts of secondary consequences and the distinction between the seen and unseen.
